IS IT SEPTEMBER 1ST YET?

We know you are all anxious for the September 1st kit release - so are we!  It's a BIGGIE!  As in the biggest sized album we have ever done and the embellishments and amount of paper you get in this kit are unbelievable.  Okay...enough hints for now.

So the weather here in Ohio has really taken a turn this weekend - Fall is definitely in the air and the thermometer is proof that cool, crisp days are not far away. 

My husband and I just spent the past week at a beach house on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  We were welcomed by winds/surf from Hurricane Bill last Saturday and bit farewell by winds/surf from Danny this Saturday.  But it really did not hinder our week at all.  The weather was gorgeous.  We stayed oceanfront up in Swan Beach in the 4x4 access only area and found it to be utterly breathtaking.  Our house had a magnificent view of the ocean from both the deck and living areas so no matter where you were the view was amazing.  And we were far away from houses on either side so all you could see was ocean from side to side. 

We were treated with a number of wild horse "sightings" including a couple that found our beach grasses to be extra yummy.  Seeing a group of wild horses galloping along the beach front is the most amazing sight I have ever seen. 

Our miniature schnauzer Lucy went along with us and had a fantastic time taking beach walks and chasing the sand pipers and seagulls while skirting along the waves on the beach. 

I even found a little time one evening to work on an upcoming ScrapScription project.  So once again we took ScrapScription on the road with us!  Check the newsletter coming out tomorrow for some fun pics! 

Candy was officially back to school this past week and is getting into a new routine at a new building in her district.  And that has kept her busy most of the past couple weeks. 

So hang in there ladies!  September 1st is just around the corner!  Then before you know it it will be time for the ScrapScriber release in the middle of the month!

How are ScrapSchool classes different from convention/store classes?

You will be taking classes designed exclusively for this event.  These projects are designed with the latest techniques and products on the market.

How do I register for ScrapSchool?

You can register right at the bottom of this blog entry!  Pay your $50 non-refundable deposit now and the balance will be due no later than Thursday, October 1, 2009.  If you would like to set up a payment plan for the balance of your tuition, do not hesitate to email us at info@scrapscription.com.

Can I still register for ScrapSchool even though I won't be able to attend?

Yes you can!  ScrapScription is offering a "distance learning" option.  Cost will be the same as our "on-campus" experience, but we will simply pack everything up and send it directly to your home.  Your package will arrive shortly after October 18th and will include all class materials, all make and takes, and any other learning materials provided to our students.  As always, each kit will come with a full set of step-by-step color instructions to complete each project.

What is the age limit for ScrapSchool?

Students attending ScrapSchool must be at least 16 years old and be able to participate in classes.  No children under the age of 16 will be permitted in the classroom/crop area.

Can I transfer or cancel my ScrapSchool registration?

Yes.  You may transfer your registration at any time.  You must submit a written request to info@scrapscription.com to transfer your registration.

You may also cancel your registration up to September 18, 2009 but will forfeit your $50 deposit.  Between September 19 and October 1, 2009 there will be a $100 cancellation fee.  Any cancellation after October 1, 2009 will result in no refund.

If you cancel your registration, you have the option to have all ScrapSchool class kits shipped to you but you must notify ScrapScription prior to the start of the event.

Today we are excited to bring you the August 1st Kit from ScrapScription.  This card kit is surely going to be popular with it's adorable little metal storage lunch box.  This kit was designed by our own Candy Carpenter and we are thrilled to have her adorable card designs included in this set.  Don't wait - this is sure to be a popular kit.  Great for a gift to a best friend or grandparent or sister - or keep it for yourself and always be ready to send a handmade card to someone you love!

So another CHA is in the books for ScrapScription.  Orlando was hot and muggy but inside the Convention Center it was all business with a little fun mixed in for good measure.  It was great seeing friends old and new as we made our way up and down the aisles of booth after booth of all your favorite scrapbook manufacturers. 

With our "red binder Bible", our chart of future kits and our wheeled plastic bin to collect catalogs and order forms, we set out to find the best of the best new product lines to bring to you over the next six months.  While it is a lot of fun picking out coordinating product and embellishments, it is sometimes not as easy as it may seem.  We of course have the budget always in mind along with making sure we are offering a good assortment of different albums types, embellishments and kit contents.  And while we think we know exactly what we want, once we get there and see the product in real life, sometimes that "vision" changes dramatically.  So there are always a few disappointments along the way.  But the real fun is when something catches you by complete surprise and so I think that is where we will start. 

So the biggest "surprise"  of the show for us was SEI.  Now I know what you are all thinking...has she lost her mind?  is she just suffering from sleep deprivation? did she get caught in a scrapbooking time warp? But really, this was actually our biggest pleasant surprise of the show.  In fact it was not until late on Day Three that we even walked through this booth.  It was nice to see that SEI has a couple of new releases that are really spectacular.  In particular we loved their new Winter Song line.  The combo of the light turquoise/blue and deep winter red were just gorgeous.  And the embellishments were all done very well with a little glitter and flocking but not over the top.  Here's a peek at what we saw:

And so that takes us to the all important "SCRAPSCRIPTION TOP 5 LIST".  We know it's cliche but it is really hard to pick just five.  But after much discussion we have narrowed it down to these items - in no particular order:

NUMBER ONE:

Jenni Bowlin/Core'dinations cardstock paper pad.

Jenni Bowlin has teamed with the fairly new specialty core colored cardstock company called Core'dinations to create a paper pad that works with her various black and red paper lines.  This cardstock has a colored core that when sanded or torn reveals a red or black core.  We loved the raised word paper and the damask.  Lots of fun new techniques and possibilities here.  And we wouldn't be surprised if Core'dinations doesn't try partnering with other niche manufacturers to create paper pads to coordinate back to their own lines. 

NUMBER TWO:

American Crafts' new Thickers releases.

Who can have enough Thickers right?  We loved the new fabric mini alphabets and the new glossy chipboard alphabets.  These smaller sizes will work perfect on our mini albums!

NUMBER THREE:

Bazzill's Just the Edge cardstock strips in Dotted Swiss.

Bazzill has re-released some of their most popular die cut edges in their most recent "Dotted Swiss" papers.  We love the mixture of the edges with the fun embossed dotted cardstock. 

NUMBER FOUR:

Jillibean Soup's Grandma's Christmas Crab Soup line.

Jill's brought back her little birds and this time they are ready for winter.  Dressed in little scarves and santa hats who can resist this adorable printed paper done in warm chocolate brown, red, green and a dash of pink just for fun.  All of the papers can easily be used past Christmas for other themes.  But we think they will make adorable Christmas cards...don't you?  Hint hint...

NUMBER FIVE:

My Mind's Eye Ooh La La For Him paper pack.

This is just one of those paper lines that just hits you for its completely different color combination.  It is even hard to explain.  My Mind's Eye has taken a turquoise and paired it with a deep mustard yellow and a warm gray tone to create this rich print that could work for so many different general themes.  We love the simplicity of just the papers with the punch out sheets.  It opens the possibilities for a very cohesive and simple album that looks elegant and well put together.

So...we were suppose to keep the top 5 list to just 5 right?  Well...we had to add just one more item to the list because it was just too cool to leave out.

BONUS NUMBER SIX:

Tim Holtz has done it again by taking the whole embellishment thing to the next level with this Filmstrip Ribbon.

 

Yes, that's right...ribbon that looks like the old super 8MM filmstrip.  Of course, he has made it so it works perfectly with those index prints that we all print out and keep when we organize our photos.  How genius!  The possibilities to use this filmstrip ribbon on layouts and as accents on tags and mini pages are endless.  Our wheels are turning...and turning and turning...
